Heathkit Educational services is closing its doors. Rumors of the kit building company going out of business first came up in QRZ.com.
1. Our county SKYWARN Weather Net will move from the 147.015 repeater to the 147.165 repeater starting this coming Saturday.

2. The 442.900 repeater in Danville has been temporarily taken off the air.
The 442.775 D-Star repeater owned by Gary Day KA9ZYL is using the 442.900 feedline and antenna on a trial basis. Gary is looking for a home for his repeater and Hendricks County RACES may look at using D-Star in the future for amateur radio auxiliary communications, so we decided to put Gary’s repeater on the air for a short time. This is only a test. We plan to put the 442.9 back on the air in a month or so.
If you have D-Star equipment or know someone you can borrow a D-Star radio from, you might want to give this repeater a try.

2/21/2012

New rules for the newly acquired 5MHz ( 60 meters) to go in effect March 5,2012. In summary, the FCC explained that the new rules amend the current rules to facilitate more efficient and effective use by the Amateur Radio Service of five channels in the 6330.5 to 5406.4 KHz.( 60 meter band.) We will have use of this band on a secondary allocation basis and only those amateurs who hold a General, Advanced, Extra class licenses may operate on this band. To know more about this
new radio service, contact the ARRL at: www.arrl.org.

Amateur Allocation at 472 KHz moves a step closer to acceptance at the 2012 World Radio Communication Conference ( WRC-12 ) in Geneva, Switzerland. A sub working group is also considering a allocation of 15 KHz in parts of the band 415-526.5 KHz to the Amateur Radio Service on a secondary basis. The formulation that has been agreed upon by most of the administrations calls for a
worldwide secondary allocation to the Amateur Radio Service at 472-479 KHz, with a power limit of 1 watt EIRP. For more information contact the ARRL at www.arrl.org .

We at the NWS would like to ask for your help.

The 2012 Central Indiana Severe Weather Symposium is rapidly approaching,
and registration is open. For those who have not attended one before, the
CISWS is a biennial all-day weather information session for spotters and
weather enthusiasts, providing interesting and informative speakers on
various severe weather related topics. This year’s symposium will be held on
Saturday, March 10th, from 8:30 AM to
4:00 PM, with registration sign-in and breakfast beginning at 7:15 AM.

Anything at all you could do to help us get the word out would be
spectacular and greatly appreciated!

Find all the information on the symposium, including the registration form,
cost, and directions at:

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=ind&storyid=40755&sour

Of course, for simplicity’s sake, it would likely be easier just to direct
people to our website at weather.gov/indy - the link to the registration
info will appear at the top of the page through the date of the symposium.

Last month the FCC released a detailed Report and Order for the new rules on the 5 MHz (60 meters) amateur radio band. These rules have not been published in the Federal Register. In order for it to be official for amateur radio use, it must be published in the Federal Register and will take effect 30 days after the publication date. Any ham who is operating under the new rules before this time is in violation of the current rules. The official date for these new rules will be announced on the ARRL website when available, stay tuned.

1. The Amateur Radio station located in the Columbus module aboard the International Space Station is now on the air on AX.25 packet radio on a frequency of 437.550 MHz. Operators need to set their TNC UNPROTO paths to ARISS to digipeat, or they can connect to the packet BBS using the callsign RSOISS-1. The packet beacon is set to transmit at 2 minute intervals. To see
the current position of the Space Station in real time, the internet address is www.issfanclub.com .

2. On November 14th the Indiana Traffic Network moved their Sunday night Net to 6pm E.S.T. on a frequency of 3.900 MHz. This change will eliminate any interference from east coast hams that use 3.910 MHz. Also it will allow more
individuals to check in after they get off work.
